On Centipede Hz, Animal Collective return to being a four-piece, an event that is reflected in the widescreen completeness of the album. This is a panoramic set of songs that shimmer with the confidence and wonder of Animal Collective’s unique inner logic and the luminous warmth of their sound world.
A masterpiece of atmosphere. Avey Tare (and co-producer/engineer Deakin) guides you thru a strange swamp-place, and with each pulsating song, you find yourself getting deeper and deeper in. The songs aren’t a downer though—they’re poppy and ethereal, even tho the lyrics can be self- reflective and heavy. But what surrounds them is a fog that you can’t quite see thru. Really cool songs. And has aged with the times perfectly. aaron
